Terms of Service

Autograder is provided by Bits Bolts and Volts, a sole proprietorship in Perris, California (“we”). Using the service means accepting these terms. If you are accepting on behalf of a school or district, you are confirming you may do so on its behalf.

Where a school has signed a separate agreement with us — a data protection agreement, for instance — that agreement wins wherever it and this page disagree.

• ·Teachers and school staff may create an account.
• ·Students reach it through their school — from their LMS, or with a class code a teacher hands out. Students do not create their own accounts.
• ·You are responsible for what happens under your account, including keeping your sign-in and your class codes to yourself.

Your assignments are yours. Everything you build — questions, answer keys, layouts — remains yours. We claim no ownership of it and no licence to publish, sell or reuse it.

We store and process that material only to run the service for you: to show it to your students, to mark it, and to return scores to your gradebook.

Student work belongs to the student and their school. We hold it on the school’s behalf. How it is handled is set out in the Privacy Policy.

The software itself, its interface and its name remain ours. These terms grant you the right to use the service, not to copy it, resell it, or take it apart to build a competing one.

• ·Upload material you have no right to use, or anything unlawful.
• ·Try to reach another teacher’s courses, students or work.
• ·Probe, overload, or interfere with the service or the schools using it.
• ·Use it to collect information about students beyond what their coursework needs.

Autograder computes scores and sends them to your gradebook. The gradebook is the record, not Autograder — and a teacher can override any score the engine produces.

Automatic marking can be wrong: a question can be built ambiguously, or an answer key can carry a mistake. You are responsible for the grades you award. Review before releasing, particularly on work that counts.

We aim to keep the service running during school hours and to give notice before planned downtime. We cannot promise it will never be unavailable — it depends on services we do not run, including your LMS, and on infrastructure that occasionally fails.

Do not treat Autograder as your only copy of anything that matters. A gradebook export is available at any time, and scores you have posted already live in your school’s gradebook.

Autograder is currently provided at no charge while it is in early use. If paid plans are introduced, existing users will be told before anything is billed, and no account is charged without being asked first.

• ·You may stop at any time. Deleting your account removes your courses, your assignments and the student work beneath them.
• ·We may suspend an account that is being used in a way that harms students, schools, or the service. Where we can, we will say why first.
• ·Export before you go. Once data is deleted we keep no copy — that is the promise the Privacy Policy makes, and it applies here too.

The service is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that automatic marking will be correct in every case.

To the extent the law allows, our liability arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim — which, while the service is free, is nothing. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Where a school or district requires its own jurisdiction in a signed agreement, that agreement governs instead.
